Illumini's next free event is......

Illumini Event 2012 Illumini will take you on a journey of Victorian hauntings, explore the dark side of a city long forgotten. Take torch light tours beneath the haunted streets of the city

Illumini's Crypt-mas experience, was a huge success and featured in many publications and gained radio coverage and attracted film crew during the event. Our regular Illumini visitors named this the best event yet!

Illumini stayed open through extreme weather conditions, with snow and ice and temperatures well below zero, to not only entertain people on the opening night outside, but also invite you to an alternative Christmas grotto. Unfortunately a lot of public buildings like museums, libraries and other public venues local to us, actually shut during these extreme conditions.

Illumini stayed open and managed to still attract 7,002 visitors. We would like to thank our visitors that came out in extreme conditions to visit us and struggled with terrible delays and closure to transport links. Thank you for your support. Also a big thank you to all performers and artists that worked in extreme cold conditions to put on this free community event.

Crypt-mas... When was the last time you visited Santa Claus?

A free alternative Christmas art experience, for all ages, created inside an underground grotto. The venue is a dark church crypt, with alcoves and arched ceilings, the fantastic setting and atmosphere, for an alternative Christmas experience.

Once inside this unusual historical subterranean labyrinth, guests can explore the festive grotto. Illumini takes them on a journey of an alternative Christmas, one never been seen before. Walls lit with bright colourful projections and effects guide the way, passing illuminating artworks that will dazzle and amaze guests of all ages. Hidden deep inside, Is Illumini's very own Father Christmas, an art installation based on a futuristic, robotic Santa. He is there to greet all his guest from young to old, with surprises and gifts for the children. The event has been designed for everyone no matter what age, to enjoy a free alternative Christmas art experience.

Children can participate in workshops during their visit, making their own festive gifts to take home with them. The whole event is free including children's workshops, making it a fantastic family fun day out with a difference, at what can be a very expensive time of the year for people, especially families.

Opening Night

A grand opening night kicks off the event, which will consist of the full grotto experience, with illuminating art works by individual artists and Illumini's Santa. During the course of the evening, there will be performers all working with light, including fire performances, illuminating juggling, dancers, singers, light shows, ice carving, by The Ice Agency, create-your-own light graffiti (and watch the results projected onto the building); and enjoy a glass of mulled wine or warm yourself with hot soup.
